Bogo Merinos
About the Stud
Bogo Merinos has gained a reputation as one of Australia's most progressive merino studs. We breed profitable performance-based genetics that sit at the upper echelon of the merino sheep industry.
We combine years of experience with the latest innovative techniques in breeding technology. DNA parentage, genomics and ASBV's have become the modern tools that assist age old visual assessment to achieve the fastest rates of genetic gain. Breeding indexes at Bogo including our new custom index are increasing rapidly. This has been aided through improved accuracy of parentage and increased linkage with other leading industry flocks in recent years.
The modern Bogo merino sheep needs to be fertile, structurally sound, with good early growth and doing ability and a moderate adult body size. It must produce lots of fine, long stapled, crimpy, white wool with luster and handle. It has a plain supple skin with low breach wrinkle suitable for a non-mulesed environment and preferably be polled.
At Bogo we have always focused on the traits that make money for the commercial grower. We are constantly testing this goal within our own large commercial flock which has seen a steady increase in wool cut per hectare per 100mm of rainfall in conjunction with higher weaning percentages and faster lamb turn off.
At Bogo we have a completely open-door policy. Please contact us at any time for a personal inspection of our farm and flock. Alternatively come along to one of the many open days we run on-farm or catch up with us at many industry events advertised on this website.
